So Let's enjoy a Cup together...........

Is this not peaceful.................

Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?

A. That I am not my own, but belong----body and soul, in life or in death----to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

From Heidelberg Catechism.

Scripture for today and everyday........

Thou will keep him in perfect peace,

whose mind is stayed on thee:

because he trusteth in thee.

Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast,

And our eternal home.

Now here is even more medicine for you..............

Have you Got your FLU SHOT??? Please read this........Sharon gave me mine the other day, please consider.
By MAURA LERNER, Star Tribune
October 29, 2008
As the daughter of one Minneapolis firefighter and the wife of another, Linda DeLude thought she knew the dangers that her husband, Barry, faced on the job.
The flu virus didn't even make the list. Until one day in 2007.
In late January, Barry DeLude and his crew responded to a medical emergency at a nursing home. Two days later, he started feeling achy and complained of the worst headache of his life.
He was a healthy 44-year-old with two jobs, two kids and the strength of an ox. No one, least of all his wife, suspected that a bout of the flu would kill him.
"I hate the word 'flu' because it sounds so innocuous," she says now, 20 months after Barry, her high-school sweetheart, died. Looking back, Linda DeLude believes her husband could have survived if he had had a flu shot. Since then she has become something of an evangelist on the subject. "I don't want to see anybody go through what we've gone through," she said.
This fall, she joined a campaign by the American Lung Association, called "Faces of Influenza," sharing her story publicly to encourage people to get vaccinated. She is also volunteering at a flu-shot clinic starting today at a Minneapolis fire station to take the message to her late husband's friends and colleagues. Last fall, she said, "I literally chased some of his friends down the hallway" to make sure they got their shots. "I have no shame," she said. "It would just break my heart to see any of them get super sick."
Flu shots weren't even on her radar, she admits, until her husband fell ill.
She had heard the statistics: Every year, an estimated 36,000 Americans die of complications from the flu and more than 200,000 are hospitalized. But like many people, she said, she didn't take the threat personally.
When her husband woke up on Feb. 2, 2007, feeling lousy and his head throbbing, he insisted on going to work anyway. He returned home at lunchtime "sick as a dog," his wife said, but refused to call a doctor. Two days later, on Super Bowl Sunday, he collapsed in the bathroom. Linda called 911. The emergency responders all knew him and insisted that he go to the hospital. Doctors found that he had not only influenza, but pneumonia and a host of other infections that can flourish in the presence of flu. Sending him home on antibiotics, the doctors told him he'd "have to ride it out." But within two days, he was back in the hospital struggling to breathe. Linda remembers seeing the terror in his "beautiful blue eyes," before he lost consciousness. "He went into the intensive care unit, and he never came home."
His death was caused by an infection in his blood stream, a complication of influenza.
Last month, Barry DeLude was honored at a national ceremony in Colorado Springs for firefighters who have died in the line of duty. Officials determined that he was probably exposed to influenza on the job.
At the home they shared in south Minneapolis, Linda DeLude still wears a bracelet with his name. She points with pride to the coffee table he built by hand, and admits she sometimes talks to his box of ashes, which she keeps on the fireplace mantle. Their sons Jake, 19, and Mark, 17, "miss him desperately," she said. Last Sunday, as she returned alone from a family weekend at Jake's college in Duluth, Linda remembers thinking: "This is ridiculous. Barry should be here with me."
"Of course, I started to cry," she added. "This is something you never get over. You learn how to live with it. Kind of."

Here is a note from my Sharon to Cherie who wrote us a note last time here at the Cup about the passing of our nursing friend Linda and Cherie also expressed her thoughts on nursing..........

Dewey,

Please thank Cherie for me. That was a very lovely note she sent, not just to me but to all nurses worldwide.

We all go into nursing for different reasons, but our main goal is to serve and give back to the community we chose to work in. Some common problems for nurses as the years pass may be the feeling of frustration, (trying to make changes for the good of all with no support); exhaustion, (working long hours covering many areas, sometimes with little or no break and no compensation for our increasing age, the mental, physical and psychological stresses on our being); and dealing the question of why did we chose such a thankless job. Then something happens...an elderly patient may grab our hand and with tears of joy say, "Thank you God for sending this Angel to earth to help me". Somehow those small moments seem to wash away all the years of stressors and give us strength to hang on for just one more day. So we go into work, (with less than optimal conditions due to the control of the insurance conglomerates, corporations that own hospitals to profit from our illnesses, and the lawyers for both that fill our lives with unnecessary paperwork that ultimately take time from patient care), put on our happy face and fill our hearts with joy and compassion to do our job for the sake of the ill we care for.

No, nursing is not glamorous, not easy, not filled with thanks, but we do it because of the love we have for others. That gets us through each day and with the Lord's help...it makes us stronger.

Thank you Cherie for being one of the people that truly appreciate what we do.

Sharon Moede

Hi Dewey

Thank you for adding the prayer list to the Daily Cup. It will help so
much to keep me on track on my praying. And, again, thank you with
all of my heart for keeping Amy on the list as she continues with
treatment! We are so grateful. - Cherie

Check out the prayer list at www.deweysdailycup.com and click on prayer requests.

Just a reminder Billy Graham is coming up on birthday number 90 on Nov. 7th. You can send him birthday wishes by going to www.mykkim.com and clicking on his picture.

Here is a wonderful reading from our dear buddy Nik.....................

Another look at the fullness of the Lord's Prayer...

"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in
heaven..."
-- Matthew 6:9

This prayer begins where all true prayer must commence, with the spirit
of adoption, "Our Father." There is no acceptable prayer until we can
say, "I will arise, and go unto my Father." This child-like spirit soon
perceives the grandeur of the Father "in heaven," and ascends to devout
adoration, "Hallowed be thy name." The child lisping, "Abba, Father,"
grows into the cherub crying, "Holy, Holy, Holy." There is but a step
from rapturous worship to the glowing missionary spirit, which is a
sure outgrowth of filial love and reverent adoration-"Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Next follows the
heartfelt expression of dependence upon God-"Give us this day our daily
bread." Being further illuminated by the Spirit, he discovers that he
is not only dependent, but sinful, hence he entreats for mercy,
"Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors:" and being pardoned,
having the righteousness of Christ imputed, and knowing his acceptance
with God, he humbly supplicates for holy perseverance, "Lead us not
into temptation." The man who is really forgiven, is anxious not to
offend again; the possession of justification leads to an anxious
desire for sanctification. "Forgive us our debts," that is
justification; "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,"
that is sanctification in its negative and positive forms. As the
result of all this, there follows a triumphant ascription of praise,
"Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever,
Amen." We rejoice that our King reigns in providence and shall reign in
grace, from the river even to the ends of the earth, and of his
dominion there shall be no end. Thus from a sense of adoption, up to
fellowship with our reigning Lord, this short model of prayer conducts
the soul. Lord, teach us thus to pray.

And now our dear friend, Pastor Jesse................

Where do we turn in uncertain times? In times like these Psalm 121 brings a message of assurance: "I will lift my eyes to the hills--where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." The psalmist looked to a higher source of strength beyond what he could find on a human plane. His faith conquered his fears when he looked to God in his circumstances. And when we looked to God our circumstances dwindle to insignificance. Frankly God is definitely bigger any circumstance we could face.

Let's continue to pray for each other!

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- An Israeli archaeologist has discovered what he says is the earliest-known Hebrew text, found on a shard of pottery that dates to the time of King David from the Old Testament, about 3,000 years ago.

The shard -- or ostracon -- contains five lines of text divided by black lines.

1 of 2

Professor Yosef Garfinkel of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem says the inscribed pottery shard -- known as an ostracon -- was found during excavations of a fortress from the 10th century BC.
Carbon dating of the ostracon, along with pottery analysis, dates the inscription to time of King David, about a millennium earlier than the famous Dead Sea Scrolls, the university said.
The shard contains five lines of text divided by black lines and measures 15 by 15 centimeters, or about 6 inches square.
Archaeologists have yet to decipher the text, but initial interpretation indicates it formed part of a letter and contains the roots of the words "judge," "slave," and "king," according to the university. That may indicate it was a legal text, which archaeologists say would provide insights into Hebrew law, society, and beliefs.
The researchers say the text was clearly written by a trained scribe.
The shard was discovered at the Elah Fortress in Khirbet Qeiyafa, about 20 miles southwest of Jerusalem. The fortress, measuring 2.3 hectares (about 5.7 acres), is the earliest-known fortified city of the biblical period in Israel.
Excavations began there in June. So far, just four percent of the site has been excavated, the university said.
Because the ostracon is similar to that found in other Israelite settlements, and because no pig bones were found at the site, archaeologists say the site was likely part of the Kingdom of Judea. Jewish dietary laws forbid the eating of pork.
Among the artifacts found at the site are more than 100 jar handles bearing distinct impressions which may indicate a link to royal vessels, the university said. Such a large quantity found in such a small area is "unprecedented," the university said.
The site of Khirbet Qeiyafa is located near the place where the Bible describes the battle between David and Goliath -- the Elah Valley, which shares its name with the fortress.
Garfinkel said it is the only site in Israel in which to investigate King David.
"The chronology and geography of Khirbet Qeiyafa create a unique meeting point between the mythology, history, historiography and archaeology of King David," he said.
The Dead Sea Scrolls are the earliest-known copies of the Bible, some dating back about 2,000 years.
It is widely believed that the first set of Dead Sea Scrolls was discovered in 1947 by a Bedouin shepherd who ventured into a cave in the Judean Desert in search of a lost sheep or goat.
The texts, written on crumbling parchment and papyrus, were found wrapped in linen inside earthenware jars.

God Bless you all and please keep praying for each other and our families, Dewey Sharon and family!

Please keep us in your prayers with some very important meetings today.

MIDWEEK CUP OF COFFEE KKIM/DDC

Good Morning KKIM Family! How are you today?

Frank Haley's Hip replacement surgery went very well. Please keep him in your prayers. My thanks to Mistie Miles who is filling in wonderfully for Frank!

From my Sharon.........

Sometimes the angels fly close enough to you that you can hear the flutter of their wings...

Psalms 55:22 'Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee. He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.'

I met Elfie of Albuquerque yesterday......we started praying for her about a year ago as she was found to have cancer and was given 6 months to live. Elfie is in her 80's and looks great! PRAISE GOD!

Erika came into the station yesterday to tell us her sister is cancer free! We started praying for her about a year ago also!!! PRAISE GOD!!!

"Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them." Mark 11:24

I wish you could have seen the look on the faces of Elfie and Erika. There are so thankful for your prayers. Jannetta has all prayers now posted on the web site at all times under prayer requests. Please keep praying for all the folks in need. We are a praying ministry...we are here to serve God's people........

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Mark 10:45

Thank you for praying with us.

Chuck Swindoll has done a great job in his books about Jesus, Paul, Job, David and others.......He has got to be one of the greatest writers in the Christian world ever! I would encourage you with all my heart to read Chuck's books.......I have enjoyed them so much.........reading in my Bible and then reading his books have been such a boost for my daily walk with Jesus Christ!

Anyhow I am reading about 6 books right now, as my boss Tim Gannon says, I have about 10 open cans of paint all the time.........and I am hoping one does not dry out! I am going from one can to the next! You should see my desk!!!!! I think I have 20 cans open right now!

Chuck Swindoll writes this..............

One of many things we can take from the life of David is..........

Whenever you realize that there's nothing you can do, wait. Wait patiently. Impossible impasses call for a firm application of brakes. Don't keep going.

Restrain yourself from anything hasty. Whenever possible put on the brakes! SLOW DOWN!!! I've seldom made wise decisions in a hurry. Furthermore, I've seldom felt sorry for things I DIDN"T SAY!

David obviously learned this lesson well, for he writes in Psalm 40,

I waited patiently for the LORD;

And He inclined to me, and heard my cry.

He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay;

And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

Psalm 40: 1-2

Psalm 40 never says that David's situation changed. It says David changes. When you wait, your situation may not change, but you will. In fact, you may discover that the reason for waiting was all for your benefit, because you're the one who needed to change.

My goodness...........I certainly can attest to that!!!! AMEN!!!!

This last week before the election has so many people doing and saying bad things. So many are on edge. Yesterday we played a sound bite from Billy Graham speaking at his 1949 revival in Los Angeles and he said, "Man cannot look to man for answers the answers are in a relationship with Jesus Christ." AMEN! We need to find our peace in our relationship with Jesus. People that are expecting to find peace and answers to their problems in the out come of this election are going to be disappointed.

For the next two Sundays I am going to be speaking at Heights Christian Church in Albuquerque. This Sunday at 5. I will be preaching on Prayer. Then on the 9th of Nov. I will be speaking at the Church's Seniors Banquet. Then on Nov. 16th Lord willing I will be in Milan, NM at the Immanuel Baptist Church. Sharon and I are looking forward to that as we love Pastor Garland Moore! I PRAISE GOD for the opportunity to get out and share the LOVE of GOD! I also have to tell you that at Heights and Immanuel the WORD of GOD is on FIRE! Please keep these efforts in your prayers...please pray for God's will. I hope you can come and see me! The neat thing about these two Church's is that everyone is invited! Don't worry about not being a member of these Church's! You are of God and are WELCOMED!!! If you ever want me to come and speak at your Church or to your group just let me know!!!! I would love to share!!!

From the Nov. issue of Christianity Today..............once again I would recommend getting this magazine.

The world produces more food than ever. So why do nearly A BILLION PEOPLE still not Have enough
to eat?

25,000 people die each day of hunger-related illnesses. Most of these preventable deaths occur in regions with no oil, insufficient food, and unending conflict.

"When hunger becomes anger, people will fight." Kenyan Church leader Tokunboh Adeyemo

"This thing is becoming so big that we need to bring God into this and we're not. We are attacking it piecemeal. We need to ask God's wisdom and HIS help. We need a major fast and prayer across this nation. That's job one." Tony Hall

Please pray KKIM Family.

One thing here at KKIM and the Cup that was taught to me years ago.......we will not report anything just by rumor. We are not perfect but we go by the old journalism guidelines........check and recheck your sources. Today with the Internet, bloging, pod casting..........almost anything is reported as fact and it can turn crazy with some of the stuff being reported today. Back at Brown, some 30 years ago, I was taught to be very careful on what you report, to make sure it is accurate. Still we are not perfect, but we try and we also pray before writing and reporting.

I invite you to listen daily to KKIM's New Mexico News and Views, where we work hard everyday to bring you the truth.

Let's check out the mailbag and hear from our dear friends..........

Dewey, I just wanted to say that Sharon's friend Linda must have been a
wonderful encouragement to those she touched. I know Sharon will miss
her but will rejoice when they are reunited someday. Also Sharon is
on my heart and I wanted to thank her for the healing work she must do
as a nurse. It is not easy to be near so much pain and suffering all
of the time. And yet, as we have learned from our daughter Amy, joy
can be in the midst of pain when you love the Lord. Sharon, I hope
you see much joy in your patients, and when they can't feel it
themselves, I hope you carry it with you and don't get too burdened
yourself! Thank you for being a nurse! Cherie Snow

Dear Dewey,

Thank you for your faithful focus on Him who is our hope.

I appreciate reading your cup and pray that God will continue to give you strength and insight into His Word and plans.

Because He alone is Worthy,

Clyde Moore

Thanks for the cup this morning. The only thing that keeps me from sitting an crying about our country these days is the knowledge that God is in control.

I'm sad that many in the country are falling away from God. Just the other day a neighbor expressed her desire to go to church with me because she'd seen me walking to the neighborhood church on Sunday morns...she claimed her Sunday school was a walk with God. I'm thankful for the growing desire in her heart, but she also shared that one of her teen sons told her he was an atheist and how broken her heart is because she fells like she has failed. This story is probably all too uncommon in our country.

I was stoked to hear about the countries that visit KKIM's web site. One of the most exciting things for me is to watch the different countries that visit the web site I write for. It's truly international. I was especially humbled when I had a hit from China. I thought many western and all Christian influences on the web were blocked, but anyway, they are getting through. People are hungry and many of them don't even know it's God they hunger for....whether it's my neighbors or people in other countries, I'm glad KKIM is there.

I know your busy, so thanks for taking time share a "cup." Thanks goodness we have a great God to rely on in soooo many areas...and people like you who are wonderful instruments in God's band...see Romans 6:12-14. Shona Neff By the way Shona is going to be doing a radio program on KKIM in the very near future Lord willing. I want to thank Pastor Larry Moss and Don Kimbro for helping us and working with Shona. Karen Rowe is also going to be starting a radio program and Larry and Don are working with her also.

By the way check out Shona's writings at www.takerootandwrite.com

Lord willing, over the next couple of months we will be adding some new local programs to the KKIM line up. Stay tuned!

Love to you all, Dewey Sharon and family

Leadership Cup KKIM/DDC

Dear KKIM Family,

Last night in driving home from seeing daughter Gretchen at her new house she shares with her two girlfriends.......I was listening to a talk show.....I got very sad..........people saying all sorts of things about each other and all sorts of anger about the country, people running for office..........people looking for answerers to the challenges our country faces........

God is our answer of course.

But folks we need hero's here on earth.

We need leaders here on earth.

I had hero's growing up.........

We need hero's to reunite this country like Billy Graham did for years!

Pastor Don Kimbro came into my office yesterday and handed a book to me on "The Leadership Secrets Of Billy Graham"

What a spirit Pastor Don has, he is always sharing with me the love of God.

He shares Godly knowledge with me.

That's what we try to do here at KKIM and the Cup everyday.

America is dying for leadership..........here is a quote from the book.............

"Absolute identity with one's cause is the first and great condition of successful leadership." President Woodrow Wilson

Far from being a formula to learn, leadership is a set of life experiences melded by intense heat. See the life of Paul.

I encourage all of us to learn to be better leaders in our homes, church's, work places.......etc.......

Pick up the book that Pastor Don gave me and you will not want to put it down........it will help you learn to be a better leader.

PS. I have to tell you that 27% of the KKIM traffic to our web site now comes from outside the United States. With Taiwan, Egypt, and South Africa in the top 3!!! Listening on line!!!!!!!!!

Mondays Wake you up CUP!!! KKIM/DDC

Dear KKIM Family,

On Saturday Sharon and I attended the memorial service for Linda Szalay. Linda was a dear friend and Sharon's mentor in nursing. She had cancer. At the service....WOW! What a tribute to a wonderful servant of God. She was an angel of mercy.......She served so many.......They said her hands healed many.....When the Doctor's were at their wit's end, they would call Linda and have her put her Godly hands on the babies. Sharon got up and gave her tribute to Linda........we both wept as the Godly tributes continued for this wonderful angel of mercy.......May we all learn to serve others and put ourselves last.............

Jesus knew............he had come from God and was returned to God; so he........wrapped a towel around his waist.......and began to wash his disciple's feet.

John 13: 3-5

Jesus, in full consciousness of HIS divine nature, humbled Himself and washed the disciples feet. Why did He do it?

One reason was because He was a gentleman. In those days, when people came into a home, it was common courtesy to wash their feet of the defilement contracted in the street. None of the others picked up a towel and basin that night at the Last Supper, so out of courtesy, Jesus did. Another reason was because He loved doing it. He liked washing dirty feet because He had the spirit of a servant. That was His nature. "I didn't come to have other people serve Me; I cam to serve them" was His attitude.

That's the kind of spirit we need in order to experience fruitful ministry. Jesus' words to the disciples remind us today that the only way we can attain greatness in HIS kingdom is through greatness of servanthood. We become first only by being everybody's slave.

taken from Discipleship Journal Nov./Dec. issue.

There is something very special about God's nurses here on earth.....I should know I am married to one of the greatest!

Please remember Frank Haley in your prayers. He undergoes hip replacement surgery today at 7:30am. Mistie Miles is filling in for Frank while he recovers.

A Special shout out to my brother in Christ Chris in Bakersfield, California.......he runs the Christian station there for our parent company AGM.

And also a special welcome to Marilyn of Albuquerque........She works with Pastor Bob Brown who is on Fridays at 3:30 on KKIM! Welcome Marilyn.

By the way of you have anybody you know that wants to get the Cup emailed to them, let me know!

I went 8 for 8 yesterday in softball! We split a double dip! PRAISE GOD that I can still play....it is so wonderful! It is great to get out on the ball field and clear your head for a couple of hours and enjoy God's World!

Scripture for YOUR Weekend KKIM/DDC

LOOK, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him. Revelation 1:7

James 1:22 tells us, "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."

James is here warning us against a very common and subtle temptation: the substituting of Christian knowledge for Christian obedience and the danger of hearing without doing the Word of God.

May God be with you and Yours!

Dewey and Sharon and family

Have a God filled weekend.

Weekend Cup KKIM/DDC

Dear KKIM Family,

I am so sorry this will be short...my first meeting is at 6:30 this am.........

We love you all and hope you have a great weekend in the Lord.

"A ruthless, sleepless, unsmiling concentration upon self..........is the mark of Hell, not Heaven." C.S. Lewis

Happy 35th Birthday to Phillip Miranda!

From Nik..........
Consider carefully the decisions you make at this time, for they will undoubtedly produce long-term consequences. Quiet your own soul, your mind and emotions, and allow your spirit to be influenced by My Spirit, says the Lord. If you will be sensitive to that still, small voice of wisdom, you will be directed to choose what is best for you and those around you. But, you must be still in order to perceive the influence of My Spirit.
Isaiah 30:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.

From Karen........

My Hope for a Better Country, by Karen Rowe

Is in God…

Living for Christ is a nicer way….

How would Jesus campaign?

I miss the old rule…In some way, it has been misplaced in that, it is okay to say bad things because others have set the trend.

If we just follow the trend leader…then who is leading the argument?

How IS peace found?

Accusations hurt someone.

How would we feel to have our picture slandered at every checkout across the Country?

What happens to trust in America when we are allowed to hurt people?

The world seems to have an attitude of “I can, so I do” and we all seem to be getting away with it or allowing it.

The scene is set to judge every time we read, look or listen to gossip and slander.

But have we ever stopped and wondered how bad words can hurt others?

…our spouse, a famous person, or an opponent; what about that stranger that is just doing their job and things didn’t go well for us…

How sweet it would be, if all would stop and just do as Jesus and turn the other cheek.

How about a kind word…joy would fill the air we breathe and love would return to be the gift that we give…it’s not money or a present…it is the love that we can share.

Why slander back? Just admit that it hurt, or ignore…either way the punches need to stop.

Whether in a marriage, a church or applying to lead our country…

It is a privilege to be loved and trusted and a joy to get along.

A fight will go no where, but spiral out of control.

Communicate with wisdom and let God mediate!

Tell me what you can do…I don’t need to hear your opinion of what the opponent has done. Expressing our opinion in a negative way directed toward someone is judging…

Didn’t God warn us that we need love, unity and forgiveness to survive?

My hope for a better Country is a Country that expresses and lives in the Peace of God.

Tell your spouse how you feel, but don’t strike a hurtful word, just because you feel the pain. Two pains do not heal…

Let go of the pain, hurt and past

Live in today with love, forgiveness and kindness.

With God at the center, our marriages will last, our country will flourish and our people will unite.

Let’s look at our self and not point our fingers.

Listen and learn…the other is speaking…there may be some wisdom that is missed because it is received in an angry way…Just listen and forgive…the American way.

God is the leader! The United States of America was founded that way!

Unity in God has united the states.

Unity in God unites us in marriage.

Our Children are watching, we can teach them better and it all starts with our home.

Unity in God unites the people…

We the people of the United States of America …In order to form a more perfect Union …

Let’s use God’s wisdom and keep it that way!

Tell me about you and what you can do

Tell me the truth and don’t try to hurt another along the way…that just makes me sad.

My hope is in Jesus, so I have hope for our Country…we just need to unite under God.

In Jesus' Name I pray for peace, joy and happiness in one Nation Under God...

Love in Christ,

Karen Rowe

Dear Walking in The Way Listeners:

Just a couple more weeks and the elections will be over. While everyone is focused on the national elections, there is a race here in Bernalillo County that is of interest to many. A couple of weeks ago Lisa Torraco joined me for a conversation about her campaign for District Attorney in Bernalillo County. This Saturday Kari Brandenburg will join me to talk about her campaign and bid for re-election. This will be a great chance to find out more about the office of District Attorney and its importance to Bernalillo County. If you have questions about the District Attorney's office and how it serves the citizens of Bernalillo County, this will be the time to call in. Ms. Brandenburg has been serving us for eight years. Her insight into the criminal justice system and where it needs to head in the future will be important for us to know. Listen in this Saturday morning at 8:05-9:00 AM and call in with your questions or comments. This will be your chance before the election to hear from Kari Brandenburg about her plans for the Office of District Attorney.

WOW! Read this!

Doctors often put their trust in placebos
By GARDINER HARRIS, New York Times
October 23, 2008
If your doctor has prescribed antibiotics for the flu or told you to try B12 vitamins for fatigue, those treatments were probably a placebo -- an unproven therapy offered with the hope you'd feel better if you took something.
Treatment with placebos is far more common than you might think, according to a new national survey in which 46 to 58 percent of U.S. physicians admitted using placebos regularly. Only 5 percent said they tell patients explicitly that they are doing so.
The results trouble medical ethicists, who say more research is needed to determine whether doctors must deceive patients in order for placebos to work.
The survey was sent to 1,200 internists and rheumatologists nationwide; 679 responded. In answering three questions as part of the larger survey, about half reported recommending placebos regularly. Surveys in Denmark, Israel, Britain, Sweden and New Zealand have found like results.
The most common placebos the U.S. doctors reported using were headache pills and vitamins, but a significant number also reported prescribing antibiotics and sedatives. Although these drugs, contrary to the usual definition of placebos, are not inert, doctors reported using them for their effect on patients' psyches, not their bodies.
In most cases, doctors who recommended placebos described them to patients as "a medicine not typically used for your condition but might benefit you," the survey found. Only 5 percent described the treatment to patients as "a placebo."
The study is published in BMJ, formerly the British Medical Journal. One of its authors, Franklin Miller, was among the medical ethicists who said they were troubled by the results.
"This is the doctor-patient relationship, and our expectations about being truthful about what's going on and about getting informed consent should give us pause about deception," said Miller, director of the research ethics program in the department of bioethics at the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. William Schreiber, an internist in Louisville, Ky., at first said he did not believe the survey's results, because, he said, few doctors he knew routinely prescribed placebos. But when asked how he treated fibromyalgia or other conditions that many doctors suspected were largely psychosomatic, Schreiber changed his mind.
"The problem is that most of those people are very difficult patients, and it's a whole lot easier to give them something like a big dose of Aleve," he said. "Is that a placebo treatment? Depending on how you define it, I guess it is."
Controlled clinical trials have hinted that placebos may have powerful effects. Some 30 to 40 percent of depressed patients who are given placebos get better, a treatment effect that antidepressants barely top.
Despite much attention given to the power of placebos, basic questions about them remain unanswered: Are placebos any better than no treatment at all? Must people be deceived into believing that a treatment is active for a placebo to work?
Other physician surveys have found that most doctors believe that giving placebos can have a positive therapeutic effect, said Dr. Greg Plotnikoff, medical director of the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing, an integrative medical center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He said the study published today was focused on whether doctors deceive their patients when they give placebos.
"There is no need to deceive a patient," he said. "It's about the human relationship."
Providing a treatment that may not be specifically appropriate to a condition is part of the art of medicine, he said. And patients who believe their doctors or nurses care about them "is a powerful predictor of positive outcomes," he said. "I challenge this idea that all therapeutic power is in the pill or procedure."

Dear KKIM Family,

Many of you loved the scripture yesterday............

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impact grace to the healers.

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given HIMSELF for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

AMEN!

Ephesians 4 verses 29, 31, 32,

Covering you, Sharon and family with prayers today Dewey. Needed that
scripture this morning. I am continually blessed by what the Lord
leads you to do! Could you also add my niece Sharon to prayer list.
She is having a double mastectomy on Thursday. We are thankful that
cancer was found at beginning stages but because her mom died of breast
cancer she does not want to take any chances. I am praying that she
draw close to Jesus during this time too. Again, thanks for all the
prayers for my daughter Amy....they are being answered and she is doing
well as chemo continues! Please be aware of your bodies. Check for
lumps, but please remember breast cancer is not always in a lump. Be
aware of any changes and talk to your doctors. Blessings today!
Love, Cherie from California

A note of love and encouragement like that is just what the Doctor ordered. Please ad Cherie's niece, Sharon to your prayer list please. I love these words of wisdom we posted on Monday..........

Words of Wisdom............

"I developed a desire to pray God's will. I began carrying other's burdens to God in prayer. I prayed for my family, church, community, state, nation, and beyond. I BECAME LESS SELF-CENTERED AND MORE GOD-CENTERED. I enjoyed serving others through prayer."

What do you think about that? Drop me a line and tell me about your prayer life! Please share. Let me know if you are passing on our prayer needs to your prayer group.

Let us pray for each other and our families.........prayer is where God is at.

Cowboy Clarence from Socorro, NM sent me an email saying he is so excited about what God is doing in his life!

From the book"Dewey" The small town library Cat who touched the world. Sharon got me this book and it is AWESOME...true story from Spencer, Iowa.......My dad used to take us to Spencer once in awhile on Sundays after Church to go to this famous smorgasbord. You gotta read the book, here is something I wanted to share with you from the book.........

One of the worst things about bad times is the effect on your mind. Bad times drain your energy They occupy your thoughts. They taint everything in your life. Bad news is as poisonous as bad bread.

This is when farmers were losing their farms, land that had been in families for many years...........S and L's were closing..........jobs were being lost..........homes were being lost.......horrible times in the Midwest in mid to late 80's. I lived though it like many others did. This true story about how this town adopts Dewey the cat (Yes the cat looks like me!) and he helps the town come together is so heart warming! Read it! What the country is going through right now is what the Iowa and Minnesota area was going through in the mid to late 80's.So the times we are going through now, we will make it through because we have the Lord. We have each other, we can pray to Our Almighty Father for HIS guidance through these times. Let us not rely on OUR MINDS.......but the MIND OF OUR FATHER! Let us give up our will and SEEK THE WILL OF GOD!

By the way there is another great read coming out........"American Lion" Andrew Jackson in the White House. Did you know he was the first President to be a target of an assassin-----and the only none to attack his assailant? During a crisis over the Bank of the United States, he freighted a group of men who came to ask him for economic relief!!!! WOW! We could use him today!!! I love to read and we sure can learn by reading our history!

I thank the Lord for all the friends of the Cup and KKIM. Monday we had Congressman Bill Redmond on New Mexico News and Views and yesterday the Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Dianne Keller was with us talking about her fine city and former Mayor Sarah Palin. We went right to the people of Wasilla for their thoughts on John McCain's running mate. Please spread the word about New Mexico News and Views weekdays at 4:30..as we work hard everyday to bring you the TRUTH..........news from a Biblical perspective. New Mexico News and Views is the only full hour of news on the radio in New Mexico. You never know who may show up on the program............maybe you!

Two of our dear friends just returned from the National Day of Prayer Conference in Colorado Springs. Pastor Mark and Pastor Don...............

Hey Dewey!
I just got back from NDP in CO and met Pastor Don and his wife from Heights Christian Church (Nice Folks). Hopefully we'll be able to get together sometime to talk, because God's doing MUCH here in NM. I have a Foursquare Conference coming up in Nov. that will be meeting in Abq., but we are working on a Christmas outreach to Cottonwood Mall and I think I already sent you some info regarding the Faith Night Event that will take place at one of the Scorpion's Games in RR this January. If you and the "little woman" ever get some free time :D Juliet and I would love to get together.
Blessings,
Mark Tross

Hi Dewey,
We had a great four days at the National Day of Prayer Summit at Focus on the Family. I met a good friend of yours while there, Mark Tross. He's a good brother and we'll be working with him on prayer venues and issues in the coming days. Also, Jim and Sue Parks from Santa Fe, who were in my church several years ago. Good people. Sue is very active with the TV station up there. Talk to you later. God bless.

Pastor Don Kimbro (Host of Nuggets Of Truth Weekdays at 7:30am and 7:30pm on KKIM)

As I have said many times........I love the family here at the Cup/KKIM.......I asked Karen and Rob Rowe to send us a picture......I am thankful for all they do here at the Cup! By the way if you would ever like to send me a picture of you, your family, or a picture of the area where you are from.....please do! We should start a photo album! What do you think???

Dear Dewey,
You had asked for a picture of me and Rob. Amanda took this of us today.
God Bless,
Rob and Karen Rowe

Dear friend,

A personal note just for you…Although we have never met, I think about who might be reading this and what you might be going through. I quietly pray in my heart for you with each minute that I spend writing…that God will have me write what needs to be heard…For HIS glory; For comfort, encouragement, strength, Salvation, lonliness, fear and unity…

I hope everyone is having a good and happy day, but I know that many struggle as they read this. Know that we all do sometimes and my prayers are with you in one mind with God along side of everyone praying with Dewey and The Daily Cup @ KKIM!

I struggle sometimes about sending things that I write in. This is one of them. It is about common knowledge that most of you reading this probably know more about than me, so sometimes I will go ahead and send it in and sometimes I will just store it away. Today I share. So my hope is that there will be something special for someone and then it has served God well. I truly write for God…to bring honor to HIS name, remind us that we all go through the same struggles and to unite us as one in Christ.

Robert, my husband has been reading the Old Testament and together we have been reading some in the evenings. I could tell you how our son broke our new TV, which forced us into new habits, like reading the Bible and sitting with our children, but that would just make this longer. But there was a blessing it that, in spite of the cost, which did far out way money. Our quality family time was stolen in TV time…it became a habit that has consumed our life to the point we lost other vital, lasting things in our life. I could go on, but we were ultimately blessed by that and my son is learning discipline and responsibility for his actions.

I find that I write many times like I am writing to friends, because I am, but then I try to take out the fluff about me and bring it back home to God’s glory. So a compliment to God that HE has made us family.

I truly believe that folks have family @ DDC and with KKIM! What praise to God! And no one should be afraid of being alone with family so close by…Only God can mold hearts like that!

Why do we have the Old Testament? Part 1 From, Karen Rowe

One main point is obvious:

The Old Testament is for a reason…

And it is history …

Without knowing history, we will continually make the same mistakes over and over again.

God is trying to teach the people; HIS people; HIS children how to behave.

I was on a walk the other day and this thought came to me… The people written about in the Old Testament were living their life day by day, just like we do. They were directly affected by what they knew and what they did not know and they grew weary in their walk over time...

Another thought that came to me today is that I am not to judge them. I believe that I was.

God would do all kinds of miraculous signs …that they knew were from God, but then they would fall back into their fallen ways again. Often times it seemed that it took a brick to fall on their heads to get their attention, but just a breeze to go by to forget…

The people would complain and worry and sin against God in the most vial ways with idols and other acts, while all the time God was physically leading them! Their patience failed them and it is written about for a reason. We can learn from The Bible without wandering around lost for 40 years!

I don’t think that people got away from God overnight…just little by little…until they forgot God; Then generation to generation, some people grew further away from a blessed life, with a forgotten God…

Good Kings were blessed, Bad Kings were plagued and cursed…they may have gotten away with it for a while, but God dealt with them in HIS time. Then, also in the Old Testament, it is written about Kings that didn’t know God’s purpose; They were following the set path of their fathers who forgot God…

However, God always prevails and it is so promising to read the good…The King who found God’s Word and changed to follow God’s rules…God shows blessings on those who obey HIM.

People living through tough times can’t see past the present need! Isn’t that our nature? Look at how the people acted while Moses was gone. He was on a mountain talking to God in person, getting the Ten Commandments and the people got bored and scared! They came up with their own plan and it didn’t work! They felt their need and then, their faith grew weak as their desires grew stronger.

God wasn’t 1st on their mind or in their heart at the times they cheated on God. I don’t think that they really gave HIM much thought when they disobeyed.

Is it human nature to need a leader with strong faith in God near? With Moses gone, the people of Egypt needed to see and touch an idol! Faith is hard sometimes, but those people just didn’t know God like Moses did…so their faith was weak.

We are blessed people! We can read the Bible and relate our own tough times to theirs…we can know that God promises a brighter future! We can know God because of Jesus! We are blessed people!

In the Old Testament, Manna was the food that God provided on the journey. The Manna shows survival under the direct leadership of God to a better place in life.

…We just need to look higher to God in trust!

We have the privilege of learning from the people’s mistakes in the Old Testament! We have the wisdom…God’s wisdom… that is uncovered in scripture, along with time to study, study notes and the Holy Spirit to guide us to understanding, as the LORD leads.

But most of all we have Jesus! The people in the Old Testament were waiting on Jesus, but we have Jesus alive with us today! That is worth thanks and praise to God!

The folks in the Bible were living through it, just like we live through things today.

Many times we can’t see the purpose or wisdom in a trial, until we have walked through something; until we arrive and see that light at the end of the tunnel. But we are not to question God’s plan, or rewrite HIS will; our nature is to complain and jump, but our Spirit follows God with a humble and thankful heart.

We can learn from that 40 year walk in the desert. What we need is a molded heart of God…purified and cleansed of selfishness, bitterness…just a heart of God that loves, trusts and leans not on our own understanding, but looks higher to God in all things.

Love in Christ,

Karen Rowe

Thank you Karen.........God Bless you and Robb and your entire family!

By the way I just want to add I am very thankful for my wife, Sharon as she sacrifices much for the Ministry of KKIM and the Cup and the many hours the Ministry takes. Without her support I could not so this.

Love in Christ to you all! Dewey Sharon and family

Dear Friend and contributor to the Cup Karen Rowe with her husband Rob

PERK UP CUP YOU CAN PERK UP!!!! KKIM/DDC

Good Morning KKIM Family,

May the Peace and strength of the Lord be with you and yours...........

A special hello to Pastor Manny in the NM Secretary Of State's Office............to Diana a new and old friend!.........Brenda Towle......who needs our prayers for her health To Paul and family in South Dakota! To Kevin Fleming and family in Worthington, Minnesota! All part of the KKIM Family!

Laziness casts one into a deep sleep.

And an idle person will suffer hunger.

Proverbs 19: 15

Words of Wisdom............

"I developed a desire to pray God's will. I began carrying other's burdens to God in prayer. I prayed for my family, church, community, state, nation, and beyond. I BECAME LESS SELF-CENTERED AND MORE GOD-CENTERED. I enjoyed serving others through prayer."

That is our theme today and everyday here at the Cup and KKIM. That quote came from a write up in the Methodist newspaper from Los Alamos. Where Sharon and I have many friends........There is more on this in today's cup! Read on and enjoy..........

To PERK YOU up..........this was sent from Nik...........

Steering through the Storms,
by Rubel Shelly

These are challenging times, and it is difficult to find a silver
lining to some of the darker clouds visible to everyone. As
election-year rhetoric morphs from harsh to rancorous, the economy of
recession continues to take its toll. All of us know lots of people who
have lost their jobs. Who will be next to suffer?
One of the interesting fact that some of us have forgotten is that
crisis times have often been the stimulus for creative new beginnings.
Notable successes have been generated from the ashes of previous
economic downturns.

A little perspective from history might encourage you. Walt Disney lost
an acting job as a movie extra and started his famous cartoon company
in a garage during the recession of 1923-1924. William Hewlett and
David Packard teamed up in Silicon Valley in 1938 during the Great
Depression. And Bill Gates dropped out of college to launch Microsoft
during the downturn of a recession in 1975.

Crisis does seem to spawn an entrepreneurial culture. When the sun is
shining, most people are content to let the boat sail under its own
power -- and to sun on the deck. When the clouds roll in and the boat
begins to toss violently on the sea, creative people are encouraged to
take risks and to chart new courses.
It is time to decide about your future.

What about you? Do you see yourself as a thermometer or a thermostat in
these tough times? Thermometers do nothing more than reflect their
environments. Thermostats change their environments!

If you have had a bad year, have been laid off, or exist in a generally
horrible environment, you have a choice. You can be a victim and whine
about your fate. Or you can do some serious introspection, set some
positive goals for making things better, and start moving ahead.
In the business world, laid-off and unfulfilled workers have changed
the world by being bold in hard times. The same thing is true in other
settings as well. Individuals, families, and churches who sense that
something is wrong always have choices. The single most important
choice is between passivity, grumbling, and dejection on the one hand
and exploration, resourcefulness, and enthusiasm for a new challenge on
the other.

Now that you have seen the newscasts and figured out that times really
are tough, it is time to decide about your future. Make responsible
choices on the basis of your passions, values, and priorities and not
your gloomy circumstance. With the strength of God to help you, you can
move from being a melancholy thermometer to become a difference-making
thermostat in your world. You can chart a new course and set sail to a
brighter destination.

Thank you so much for sending that Nik! A good read to start a new week!

Here is a note from our friend Pat Outlaw..........

I DO NOT KNOW THE PEOPLE YOU WRITE ABOUT NOR PRAY FOR, BUT IS SO ENJOY RECEIVING YOUR MESSAGES. I LOVED WASH DAY-JUST WISH I COULD LEARN TO CUT AND PASTE-YOU WOULDNOT BELIEVE THE PAPER I HAVE WASTED PRINTING ALL OF A MESSAGE, TO CUT ONE PART OUT TO SAVE, READ AND RE-READ. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND. P.

Thanks for the note Pat, the beauty of it..we don't have to know all those we are praying for personally. We have so many prayer warriors nearly 600 regular readers........and that does not include those who pray as the Daily Cup is forwarded to prayer groups, Pastors, and Church's. Thanks to Pastor Jose Luis we now have a Church in Mexico that prayers every morning for us! They have many prayer intercessor's!!! Gilbert and Friends pray for us everyday also! Many others have said they pray for us everyday! We ask for prayer on the radio to keep the Ministry and staff and their families in your prayers!

Eugene Peterson says, "No Christian is an only child."

Peter Taylor Forsyth says, "Prayer is an act, indeed the act of fellowship. (That is why we gather here at the Cup to Fellowship) We cannot truly pray even for ourselves without passing beyond ourselves and our individual experience.....Even private prayer is common prayer."

When we pray Friends, we participate in what the Apostle's Creed calls "the communion of saints." We stand before the throne of God with all who are HIS------past, present, and future. Peter Kreeft calls God the "eternal contemporary," meaning Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are as alive to HIM as we are. They are really there with us in GOD's presence, along with countless others, living and dead: Moses and Peter and Paul and J.S. Bach; Luther, Augustine, Aquinas, and my Dad and Mother. And you. We are all there together!

Prayer is AMAZING!!!!

I read this in the First Visions and edition of the United Methodist Reporter, it is one of the best write up's I have ever read on PRAYER!!!!

God's plan for the Church is to be an expression of Christ and to partner with HIM to bring about HIS will on earth. One way we do that is through prayer. (WOW! That is why the LORD has us here at the Daily Cup and KKIM to partner with GOD to bring forth HIS will on earth and PRAYER is a HUGE part of this)

Just as the human brain sends impulses to move the rest of the body, God communicates HIS thoughts, purposes, and plans to humans through HIS HOLY SPIRIT! Spending time with God through praying, listening, reading, and meditating on HIS word are a few ways to develop intimacy with God that can increase one's sensitivity to hear God's voice. Once we sense what is on HIS mind and heart, we can pray in a way HE has promised to answer because we pray according to HIS will. (NOT OURS) So prayer releases GOD's POWER into the earth. John 15:7 says, "If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given to you." (We do not have to know the people we are praying for personally, Our Almighty Father knows all)

Jesus is our example. He often withdrew to pray, sometimes all night. Because of our covenant relationship with God. We have been named HIS ambassadors and have been delegated authority to represent Jesus by praying in HIS name. WOW!-----what a privilege, what a responsibility. Author Dutch Sheets says, "Jesus is a Victor-----we enforce HIS victory. Jesus is the Redeemer-----we release HIS redemption. He's the HEAD----we're the body. Jesus is the generator-----we're the distributors." AND IT'S THROUGH PRAYER.

When I learned these principles years ago, I got so excited. Prayer became a priority in my life. (Folks I have to tell you I go around praying all day long for all of you!) My spiritual sensitivity increased. My hunger, thirst, and passion for God increased. I developed a desire to pray God's will. (The paper does not list who wrote this article but I sure can identify with this person as I have found the same EXCITMENT IN THE LORD AND PRAYER!)

Let me just share a few more things in the write up............

I began carrying other's burdens to God in prayer. (like we do here at the Cup and KKIM) I prayed for my family, church, community, state, nation and beyond. I became less self-centered and more God-centered. (WOW I LOVE THAT!!!) I enjoyed serving others through prayer.

John Wesley believed that every good thing began with prayer, was sustained by prayer, and finished by prayer. He lived to pray and prayed to live. Because of Wesley's prayers, all of England was touched by God.

So I challenge you today. Have you offered yourself in service to God through prayer?

Have you discovered the mercy, compassion, grace and love that God wants to pour into others through your prayers?

WOW! What a great write up! I just wish I knew who wrote it! But that does not really matter does it! What a message........It does a great job in explaining why the Cup and KKIM are here everyday to serve out LORD and you!

PRAISE GOD!!!!

Prayer needs............

We have been praying for Doug Scarborough (He was to come this week to start planning for Feb.'s Weekend To Remember with Family Life Radio) he has been dismissed from the hospital and taking medication for his heart problem. he is doing fine...But when he called and left a message Saturday he sounded so sad and he ended the message by telling me his Dad has passed away. Doug and his Dad had been admitted to the Hospital (different locations) for the same kind of heart problem. Doug said his Dad was a wonderful man and he thanked us for all your prayers........see folks your prayers send so much encouragement to so many even if you do not know them personally.........It meant a lot to Doug! I can tell that Doug and his Dad had a wonderful loving relationship........one that I pray all fathers and Sons have.

Please also pray for Shauna as she like many right now is having challenges with the state of the economy.

Here is a prayer note from our dear, dear friend in Santa Fe, Jose............
Dear Friends,

Beginning next Monday, October 20, 2008, and every day following, you are invite to pray for the up coming elections. We will be meeting at noon here in Santa Fe at Hotel Santa Fe.

Eighteen days from now, on November 4th, our nation will turn a corner.

We will elect leaders who are absent a Biblical world view or we will elect men and women who are not perfect, but whose positions are closer to Biblical truths.

California will decide on Proposition 9, the homosexual marriage initiative.
New Mexico will vote for a reportedly homosexual congressman.

One thing is certain, our country will either affirm or negate our Judeo-Christian heritage this election and our national will be different on November 5th.

You are invited to pray each day at noon until the election at Hotel Santa Fe (Cerrillos and Paseo de Peralta). This is a leaderless, non-denominational group meeting to seek the Lord's favor for our cities, state and nation in this election. (Please note: No meal will be served.)

Please join us for this precious time of prayer and remember that remarkable things begin with prayer. We're looking forward to seeing you on Monday.

God bless you.

Jose Vasquez

Here is a note for all of us Property Tax folks in New Mexico from our dear friend State Senator Mark Boitano. I am thankful to the Lord for all our friends at the State Capital!!!

Dear Friends of Property Tax Fairness: A quick update on Thursday's meeting at EXPO N.M. and an inquiry into whether there is interest in another meeting - Tuesday evening, October 21st --

There was a spectacular turnout yesterday at the meeting of the legislative Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committee. The testimony ranged from Denise Lucero's story of a nearly 500% property tax increase, to an attorney (Stephanie Dzur - check out her blog: http://noproposition13innm.blogspot.com/) who argues that our present tax law is unconstitutional, to Jordan Massad who has a Ph.D in Math and documented how he and his neighbors hit by tax lightening will pay an average of $57,253 more in property taxes (over the 30 year life of his mortgage) than other neighbors who benefit from the 3% cap!

Rob Burdick, a mortgage broker and CPA, wrote this about the meeting: "Have to tell you, I was a bit discouraged by the significant difference between the perspective of the scheduled speakers and that of the real estate industry participants and affected citizens who spoke. The committee and the “experts” seem fixated on the disclosure issue – boy, are they missing the point. Was also shocked to hear the Ph.D expert say they needed 2 years to accumulate and study the data. Unbelievable."

Frankly ... the testimony from those in attendance moved the committee from a 'let's study this further mode' - to a realization that many citizens were crying wolf and we need to act - NOW!

... Regarding October 21st @ 5:30 at the Law Offices of Vogel, Campbell and Blueher, 6100 Uptown Blvd. NE, Ste. 500 - is there interest in meeting with two property tax lawyers (Clinton Marrs and Stephanie Dzur) for an update on their activities and hearing from several homeowners who have had successful protest hearings with the county assessor?? Please e-mail me ASAP if you are interested in attending.

WEEKEND CUP KKIM/DDC

Good Morning KKIM Family!

A false witness will not go unpunished,

And he who speaks lies shall perish. Proverbs 19:9

I am in trouble today as my AOL spell check is not working.....please bear with me! They don't call me Dr. Spello for nothing!!!!

I would love to have you see the new KKIM TV commercial!!! Go to www.mykkim.com and take a look and let me know what you think! You can see Grant Kuck, Frank Haley, Bobby Jones, John Paul and mayself!

Thank you to Mistie Miles who will be filling in for Frank Haley as he undergoes hip replacement. Our many thanks to Mistie for stepping forward and our prayers and love go out to Frank! We will keep you posted. I will let you know how the surgery goes........we have a week or so now left before the surgery.

Yesterday as I was making a program decsion Pastor Jose Luis came into the station to pray with me. Gilbert Larson was also there. We talked about when we were little kids growing up we used to put our arm's around our each other shoulders and walk around as buddy's. What ever happaned to that? The girls would walk around holding hands. And whatever happaned to whisteling?

In the October issue of Christianty Today Al Hsu writes about being surprised by disability. He and his wife gave birth to a baby boy, Elijah who has Down Syndrome.

"People with developmental disabilities often help all of us understand our own brokeness." Joan Mahler

Amen to that!

Getting back to Al Hsu column, he reminds us that October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Recent articles in both the American Journal of Genetics and Prenantal Diagnosis report that more than 90 percent of pregnancies prenatally diagnosed as Down Syndrome are terminated. As prenatal testing becomes normative, expectant couples may be more likely to abort babies who are not excatley what they had hoped for. Jean Vanier, founder of L'Arche communities which bring abled and disabled people together under one roof, warns that in a few years there may be no more children with Down syndrome in France because they will have been aborted. In China, babies with disabilites are often abandoned. Extremist groups in the Middle East have even used people with mental disablilites as unwitting suicide bombers. The Church (That is you and me folks) must advocate on behalf of those most vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Care for the disabled is a global justice issue. The 2000 U.S. Census found that 19.4 percent of the population is affected by physical or intellectual disabilty.

All of us are only temporarily abled. We are only a car accident or stroke away from disability.

This brings me to a letter from Darrell from Farmington a dear freind of KKIM..........Darrell has cystic fibrosis.........he fights for the rights of the disabled.........

I wanted to write this to share with your listeners.
A few of my concerns. I am very troubled about the possibility of Senator Obama becoming our next president. He is a man who does not believe in many of the things that have made our country one of the finest on Earth. However, for the purposes of this discussion I will discuss only one issue. Barack Obama believes that abortion on demand should be the law of the land. As a life long advocate of people with disabilities I am well aware that 90% of all abortions performed is this country are done becauce pre-natal testing has determind that the child would be born into the world with a disability. The statistic which I have just given can be varified on dozens of websites on the internet. One aditional thing that I would like to say is that Senator Obama voted several while in the Illinouse State Senate to denie medical care to babies fortunate enought to survive the abortion process. I also witnessed with my own eyes as did other people Senator Obama refusing to codeme the practice of Partical Birth Abortion. This happened during the Presidential Debate which took place on October 15, 2008. I would like to close be saying that our Founding Fathers said that "We are indowed by God with certain enaliable rights. Among these are LIFE, LIBERITY and The pursute of HAPPYNESS."
If he would denie this most fundemental right to the most helpless among us, we should think very hard before we cast our vote not only about that but also about what else he would denie us.
Darrell Brown

Quote of the Day...........

Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint. - Mark Twain

Here is the Funny Bone from Lew:

The teacher says to her new class, "For our first lesson, each of you will stand up, tell us your name, what your father does, spell what your father does, and then explain it to us. All right, Billy. You go first."

Billy stands up and says, "My name's Billy. My father's a lawyer, l-a-w-y-e-r, and he defends people in court."

The teacher says, "Very good. All right, Benjamin."

Benjamin stands up and says, "My name's Benjamin. My father's a pharmacist, f-a-m... f-a-r-n... f-n..."

The teacher says, "Benjamin, you go home tonight and learn how to spell pharmacist. All right, Angelo."

Angelo stands up and says, "My name's Angelo. My old man's a bookie, b-o-o-k-i-e, and if he was here, he'd give you nine-to-five odds Benjamin ain't spellin' pharmacist by tomorrow."

Happy Birthday to KKIM Friend Mindi Schnieder!!! and our friend Tony Oilva is 5????!!!! Happy Birthday to you both! Let me know when your birthday is! I took you off the hook Tony!!!

This is a note from Dr. Deb on her program Saturday at 8:05 am on KKIM...........

To Walking in The Way listeners,

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I wonder whose life today has not been touched by breast cancer. As women, this disease has either touched our own lives or the lives of family or friends. I personally know three women in my circle of friends who have received treatment for breast cancer and my mother died from the disease. This week's show will be one to listen to. I have several wonderful guests. Dr. Donella Wilson, Scientific Director of Research Promotion and Communication for the national office of the American Cancer Society is in town for a meeting and she will join us on the show. She will talk about the latest in research and treatment for this disease. Joining her will be Kathleen McVickers, a two-time breast cancer survivor and community advocate who will talk about her experience with this disease. Enrico Jeantete will tell us about the activities and services through the local office of the American Cancer Society. As always, feel free to call in with questions and comments for these guests. I hope this show will bless all of you as women either in your own journey with breast cancer or as you support women you love who are in the midst of this disease. Encourage others that you know to listen in on Saturday, October 18 from 8:05-9:00 AM on KKIM-AM1000 in the Albuquerque area or FM94.7 in the Santa Fe/northern New Mexico area. The show is streamed live on www.mykkim.com.

May God bless you this week,

Now let's get to Karen and Nik two AWESOME friends..........

Do we ever give up on faith? By Karen Rowe

Recently, God brought us to 2 new opportunities…we approached both by faith, but in different ways…

**One decision, we waited on God’s direction until we were certain it was God’s will…

**The other decision, we quickly jumped on and received it as a blessing!

God still blessed our faith…, but in different ways than we were pursuing. We never lost faith in God, but in this one opportunity, our faith became misplaced in our finances…

The problem that I am sharing is that our focus and priority level slightly and silently shifted:

…Away from complete trust in God to provide

…and toward a need for an opportunity to survive;

…We placed our faith in an opportunity!

God IS our foundation for all things, including faith.

God IS our hope in ALL things…Jesus gives us HOPE!

Hope may be in the opportunity as God provides…

…But, the opportunity is NOT our hope……GOD IS!!!

Our faith IS NOT meant to be placed in the opportunity

…Our faith needs to remain in God.

We thought that we had found the answer to save the world from debt…somehow this opportunity moved up as a priority in our life and became something more than just an opportunity…it became our hope…our dream…and we subconsciously placed our faith in it;

…AND IT FAILED US!

When that happened, my faith crumbled a little…WHY?

Because I placed my faith in an opportunity and when my faith in this program crumbled, so did my faith... enough to feel it!

My foundation of faith was shaken because I placed it in the wrong place!

Our foundation needs to be strong…Jesus teaches us like a rock that won’t shift or crack or crumble…

My faith IS strong because my faith is in God!

Where we place our faith needs to be reliable… IN GOD ALONE!

HE IS our rock that won’t crumble!

A blessing comes from God…not from an opportunity!

Where is your faith?

Is your faith completely IN God or is it partially invested in an opportunity?

…Do you have a sense of urgency in something; a need for something other than trust in God to survive?

Faith is a gift from God…what we do with our faith is a choice!

Is there something that you are hoping for to get a better life? Good…us too!

However, today I pose the question, where is your hope? Is your hope IN God or is your hope partially invested in a need for something, other than trusting God to survive well?

Work hard, yes, explore new opportunities and do those things that God expects us to do. God expects us to work hard!

BUT…Does your hope have doubt or a slight fear that God cannot or will not give better than you can do another way???

God won’t fail faith…when our faith remains strong IN HIM!

Faith and hope in God have an inner purpose that lifts us up above all odds!

Faith and hope in anything else is setting opportunity above God…

It is a fine line, but a slight sway to the right or the left can take us off of the path that God sets for us…

God rewards faith and HE loves us…Can we trust that? I do!

And God blesses us!

When we walk with Christ, God will bring good into our life through even those things that we consider a failure!

In this opportunity that I have written about today, all on paper seemed so good, we even felt God’s peace as we entered into it, but there was always a hint of something not right… we could not put our finger on it; didn’t slow down to explore it and refused to even admit it, because it seemed so good…However something in this program was not agreeing with the Spirit living on the inside of us…we had the hint from God…

Hindsight, I can tell you that we were putting our hope into a program…more than we were putting our hope in God…that was the problem…we were on fire for this program and it was consuming us in the chase!

When the program, our hope for a better future, failed us, all of the sudden I felt burdened and worried and allowed myself to have a troubled heart! For the 1st time in my life, I wondered how we were making it financially! Crazy! Because, God has always provided, even against all odds!

When faith crumbles…everything seems to fall apart!

BUT…Jesus says, “Do not LET your hearts be troubled…”

It is not the opportunity…it IS GOD that gives us blessings…

Sharing our faith should be as easy as telling another about the movie that we went to last week…Only difference is that sharing our faith has the ability in Christ to change lives…

Live in peace, joy and happiness; Trust in God and rest assured, God IS over all things…

And we are Blessed!!!

Love in Christ,

Karen Rowe

Now here is some goodies from Brother Nik.........

Please take time to read this...someone is reaching out and needs a friend.

Blessings,
Friendship and the Abundant Life,
by Ron Rose

Preparation
After a glorious day, camera in hand, exploring the beauty of Colorado
Aspens in the fall, I sat at dinner witnessing color and warmth and
richness of a different kind. Playing just across the table from me was
a colorful comedy. The meal took backstage to the humorous adventures
and countless stories of old friends.

Not only did I glimpse a vision of friendship vividly played-out in
front of my eyes, I was an invited guest. I got to share, to be part of
the moment.

The stories were detailed and dramatic. That night God gave me a vision
far greater than Aspens in the fall. Nothing celebrates life more than
old friends sharing memories. The abundant life God intended us to
experience is impossible without friendship. It is our most prized
possession.

God's masterpiece of creation isn't found in glorious sunsets, or
mountaintop panoramas, or spectacular fall colors; it's invested inside
the people who inhabit this planet. God put his HD in us long before
someone thought of 1080i, but you can't find it by yourself, it takes
friendship to see it. In fact, living in HD (High Definition) is only
possible within friendship. As your book of life unfolds and the
chapters are written, you will discover that nothing is more valuable
than friends.

Tragically it seems friendship, true friendship, has been devalued and
discounted. Some have never experienced it. You can get your face on
the cover of "Time" or "U.S.News" or "Forbes," millions may know your
name, but without real friends it's an empty achievement. You may be
networked to thousands in "Facebook," "My Space," "Twitter," and
"Plaxo," yet still have zero best friends.

Best friends know you; they know your strengths and your weaknesses,
your secrets and your stories. They are invested in you and you are
invested in them. They encourage you and bring out the best in you, but
at times they get in your face and say what needs to be said. Their
words, even if they hurt, always matter; they become part of your story
and you become part of theirs.

Jesus said, "Here's how to measure your love: the greatest love is
shown when people lay down their lives for their friends. You are my
friends if you obey me." Want to be a best friend? Show your love;
invest your life in others. Jesus pointed us that way.
If you want your joy in life to overflow, then get your focus off
yourself. Choose a friend and invest your lives together in something
bigger than either of you: build something, take a trip, share secrets
and deal with tough issues, work on a project, stay up all night
talking and dreaming and laughing. Experience life together.

Inspiration
Eric was having one of those, "I don't really want to do this" moments.
He wanted to stay home and "veg-out." But, God pushed him forward
anyway.

For several weeks now the group had been gathering on Tuesday's for
coffee and questions and Eric was growing a little disconnected and
bored, even though he was supposed to be the leader.
But this night changed everything.

Find a way this week to reclaim your friends.
She had been coming for weeks, but had remained silent and mysterious.
So her words held a double-whammy.

Her voice was soft and engaging, but stinging: "Christians talk so much
about the abundant life, but it seems all your decisions are based on
fear. It seems you become Christians because you are afraid of going to
hell. You live a 'good' life so that God won't punish you or the church
won't get mad at you. You don't share your faults because you are
afraid of looking bad ... fear, fear, fear. Fear of hell, fear of
punishment, fear of displeasing God or others -- honestly, that doesn't
sound like abundance to me."

Ouch, what a zinger! The group was stunned. She put into words what
each of them was afraid to even think. No one had an answer. She had
taken a big risk to make a statement like that and no one knew how to
respond. They left with her words still hanging in the air.
Eric asked, "Can we sit and talk awhile longer?"

That night became a holy moment. God used a stinging question/statement
to launch a friendship that has reshaped faith for both of then and
left them blessed by a touch of abundance.

Motivation
Do you have a best friend or two? Does he or she know it?
Find a way this week to reclaim your friends. Share a lunch or dinner.
Write a note or an email reliving a moment in the past. Invite a
potential new friend to trust you enough to move past the surface stuff
and talk of serous things. Get involved in a ministry with new friends.
Reconnect with old friends and see what God does with it.

Prepare for a touch of the abundant life.

God Bless you all.......We Love you all!!!!

Mid Week Cup KKIM/DDC

Dear KKIM Family,

It is honorable for a man to stop striving, Since any fool can start a quarrel. Proverbs 20:3 How timely is that for this season!

We are, in truth, more than half what we are by imitation. The great point is to choose good models and to study them with care. Lord Chesterfield

Happy Birthday to our Dear Friend in Chama, NM Scott Flurry who is 59 years young today!!! One of the best radio broadcasters ever in New Mexico!

I was surprised to read the following in my new issue of Christianity Today..........

FAITH OF FEW WORDS That is the headline in a box in the Oct. issue......

McCain does not claim to be "born again" or to have been baptized. He says he is "just a Christian" who attends a Baptist Church in Phoenix.

I would suggest, if you can, to pick up this issue of Christianity Today it has a very good write up on both Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama. Once again, like here at KKIM/DDC I suggest getting your news from a Christian source. Not the secular media.

The article brings out a lot of points about both candidates that have been lost in the secular media. I really think the best debate or conversation the candidates have had thus far is the event that was held at Rick Warren's Church.

There is so much hate and anger going on with this election. We need to remember to put our faith in our Lord.

We will have tonight's debate on KKIM at 7pm and then afterward post debate coverage with IRN/USA Radio network news.

Check out www.christianitytoday.com By the way this magazine was started by Billy Graham. Don't you wish you could sit down and have a cup of coffee with Billy? You can wish him a Happy 90th Birthday by going to www.mykkim.com and clicking on the Billy Graham banner.

Kids' poll predicts president: Every four years, the Scholastic presidential poll asks kids to vote. For the past 40 years, the result has been correct. This election the Scholastic Poll predicts a huge victory for Sen. Obama.
What do all those pictures tell us that appear on tv and in the newspaper of all those folks on Wall Street who are either looking so sad..........or so happy as they watch the rise and fall if the market?

I would love to wake up some day and see pictures of folks on tv and in the newspaper smiling and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Gilbert Larson is on live today on KKIM at 2:30 discussing the book of Job............."Thinking Outside The Box"

Let's get to our prayer needs from Dorothy and Amy............

Hello from Sidney, Montana! Yes, we did have all that snow but we are Montanans so we can handle it, but it could have waited a couple months. I have a couple of prayer requests. My brother-in-law, Jim Paladichuk in Beaverton, OR, is on hospice. He has emphysema and not doing well so we are asking for God's peace for him and his family. Jim's wife, Gloria, has a sister, Clara Miller in Spokane, who is dying of cancer so the family has a lot on their plate right now. Gloria would love to see her sister one more time but does not want to leave Jim even though Brian, their son, took a week off of work to help with his Dad. We know God never gives us more than we can handle but they really need our prayers to help get them through all of this.

I continue to read your emails and enjoy them so much. Thank you. And thanks for the prayers for Jim and Clara and their families.

God bless.

Dorothy Paladichuk

Thank you Dorothy....we are praying...I would love to come back to Sidney soon and share the Good News of Jesus Christ with all! I remember you and your wonderful family!
Hi Dewey!
I am reading about the snow, and saw that you wanted to know when we get our first snow. Unfortunately, our last snow where I live was about 35 years ago! I live in Pasadena California, and every now and again, I do wish it would snow here! Instead I need to go traveling for my snow fix. Fortunately we are in the foothills, and snow is just about 45 minutes away when it comes.

I just wanted to give an update on my Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Once again, I so appreciate the prayers that are being sent out for me, and I'd like to ask that they continue, as they are working!

My insurance and employment situation is being worked out as we speak. In the school district I work for it could take up to ten weeks to know for sure, but my insurance continues until there is resolution. Fortunately my husband's union has come through with insurance for him, and I will not even have to change doctors. That will take a week or two more to get me on the policy, but I am so grateful! My problems with the portacath (used to inject chemo) have pretty much been resolved. The new one is in place, we're watching the old site for infection (please pray for the clean healing of all my little pokes and cuts!) but things are looking good.
Last report from the doctor on the scans I have done to check the progress of the cancer is good. There is still a small amount in my bones, but each time they scan there is less and less, and the bones are healing quickly and surely. The doctor says that is good news because it means that there is less room for the leftover cancer cells to reside. Hurray God! I still have 4 more months of chemo to go, and am a bit worried about going back to work before the chemo is done. I work with kindergarteners, the best job in the world, but unfortunately to someone on chemo a kinder classroom can be a toxic environment (sniffles, coughs, and working parents sending their kids to school sick because they can't stay home from work....) please keep me in your prayers for God's protection and intervention to protect me from illness, however that may work out!

Thank you so very much for prayers and support. Once again, you are all an important part of my healing team, and I pray that God bless and protect all of you, keeping you healthy and strong and walking in His path!

Amy Schultz, teacher in California battling Inflammatory Breast Cancer

We have been and will always pray for you Amy!

Monday I got a phone call from my dear friend Doug Scarbrough of Family Life Today as he was getting ready to travel here to the Duke City and begin plans for "Weekend To Remember" We had set a meeting up for next week. His office called yesterday and said that he was in the Hospital with an irregular heart beat. And his Dad was in the hospital with the same thing! Please keep Doug and his Dad in your prayers.

Let's get to the mailbag and see what we have in it! I LOVE MAIL!!!!

Hey Dewey,

I thought you might enjoy this story. It’s great. So, take a moment to read it and it will make your day! The ending will surprise you.....

Your Friend,

John Jelso

My Son, please take my Son.

A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art.

When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son.

About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the door. A young man stood at the door with a large package in his hands.

He said, 'Sir, you don't know me, but I am the soldier for whom your son gave his life. He saved many lives that day, and he was carrying me to safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and he died instantly. He often talked about you, and your love for art.' The young man held out this package. 'I know this isn't much. I'm not really a great artist, but I think your son would have wanted you to have this.'

The father opened the package. It was a portrait of his son, painted by the young man. He stared in awe at the way the soldier had captured the personality of his son in the painting. The father was so drawn to the eyes that his own eyes welled up with tears. He thanked the young man and offered to pay him for the picture. 'Oh, no sir, I could never repay what your son did for me. It's a gift.'

The father hung the portrait over his mantle. Every time visitors came to his home he took them to see the portrait of his son before he showed them any of the other great works he had collected.

The man died a few months later. There was to be a great auction of his paintings Many influential people gathered, ex cited over seeing the great paintings and having an opportunity to purchase one for their collection.

On the platform sat the painting of the son The auctioneer pounded his gavel. 'We will start the bidding with this picture of the son. Who will bid for this picture?'

There was silence.

Then a voice in the back of the room shouted, 'We want to see the famous paintings. Skip this one.'

But the auctioneer persisted. 'Will somebody bid for this painting. Who will start the bidding? $100, $200?'.

Another voice angrily, 'We didn't come here to see this painting. We came to see the Van Gogh's, the Rembrandt's. Get on with the real bids!'

But still the auctioneer continued. 'The son! The son! Who'll take the son?'

Finally, a voice came from the very back of the room. It was the longtime gardener of the man and his son. 'I'll give $10 for the painting.' Being a poor man, it was all he could afford.

'We have $10, who will bid $20?'

'Give it to him for $10. Let's see the masters.'

'$10 is the bid, won't someone bid $20?'

The crowd was becoming angry. They didn't want the picture of the son.

They wanted the more worthy investments for their collections.

The auctioneer pounded the gavel. 'Going once, twice, SOLD for $10!'

A man sitting on the second row shouted, 'Now let's get on with the collection!'

The auctioneer laid down his gavel. 'I'm sorry, the auction is over.'

'What about the paintings?'

'I am sorry. When I was called to conduct this auction, I was told of a secret stipulation in the will. I was not allowed to reveal that stipulation until this time. Only the painting of the son would be auctioned. Whoever bought that painting would inherit the entire estate, including the paintings.

The man who took the son gets everything!'

God gave His son 2,000 years ago to die on the cross. Much like the auctioneer, His message today is: 'The son, the son, who'll take the son?'

Because, you see, whoever takes the Son gets everything.

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, WHO SO EVER BELIEVETH, SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE...THAT'S LOVE

God Bless.

Thanks John!

Hi Dewey: No snow yet in Sioux Falls, SD. Supposed to be a high of 53 tomorrow. I'm just wondering about future baseball seasons if the world series will be snowed out when played in Minnesota. Pray for your ministry often.
Take care and God Bless,

Good to hear from you Paul!
My husband works in Bend , OR , and they have snow there! Guess winter’s on its way!

Four inches Saturday night, in Helena, all melted now...
Civil Emergency in Billings after repeated power failures.

--Jay in Helena, Montana

Jay and I used to do ball games together in LaPorte, Indiana at WCOE Radio!

Now Nik has some great things to share with us.................
"I count all things but loss for the excellency of the
knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord."
-- Philippians 3:8

Spiritual knowledge of Christ will be a personal knowledge. I cannot
know Jesus through another person's acquaintance with him. No, I must
know him myself; I must know him on my own account. It will be an
intelligent knowledge-I must know him, not as the visionary dreams of
him, but as the Word reveals him. I must know his natures, divine and
human. I must know his offices-his attributes-his works-his shame-his
glory. I must meditate upon him until I "comprehend with all saints
what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and know the
love of Christ, which passeth knowledge."

It will be an affectionate knowledge of him; indeed, if I know him at all, I must love him.
An ounce of heart knowledge is worth a ton of head learning. Our knowledge
of him will be a satisfying knowledge. When I know my Saviour, my mind
will be full to the brim-I shall feel that I have that which my spirit
panted after. "This is that bread whereof if a man eat he shall never
hunger."

At the same time it will be an exciting knowledge; the more I
know of my Beloved, the more I shall want to know. The higher I climb
the loftier will be the summits which invite my eager footsteps. I
shall want the more as I get the more. Like the miser's treasure, my
gold will make me covet more. To conclude; this knowledge of Christ
Jesus will be a most happy one; in fact, so elevating, that sometimes
it will completely bear me up above all trials, and doubts, and
sorrows; and it will, while I enjoy it, make me something more than
"Man that is born of woman, who is of few days, and full of trouble";
for it will fling about me the immortality of the ever living Saviour,
and gird me with the golden girdle of his eternal joy. Come, my soul,
sit at Jesus's feet and learn of him all this day.

Tell Them

"I try to find common ground with him so that he will let me tell him about Christ." 1 CORINTHIANS 9:22 TLB

Josh McDowell writes "An executive 'head hunter' who goes out and hires corporate executives for other firms once told me, 'When I get an executive I'm trying to hire for someone else, I like to disarm him. I offer him a drink, take my coat off, then my vest, undo my tie, throw up my feet and talk about baseball, football, family, whatever, until he's all relaxed. Then when I think I've got him relaxed I lean over, look him square in the eye and say - what's the purpose in your life?' It's amazing how top executives fall apart on that question.' Well, I was interviewing this fellow the other day, had him all disarmed with my feet up on my desk talking about football. Then I leaned over and said - what's the purpose in your life, Bob? Without blinking an eye he said 'To go to heaven and take as many people with me as I can.' For the first time in my career I was speechless."

There are basically five reasons why we don't share our faith more often, and not one of them will hold up when we stand before Christ:

(1) We think it's the preacher's job.
(2) We aren't sure of our salvation.
(3) We fear being rejected.
(4) We've never taken responsibility for learning how.
(5) Our love for Christ has grown cold.

But not Paul: he said, "Whatever a person is like, I try to find common ground with him so that he will let me tell him about Christ and let Christ save him."

Can you say that?
